Pregnancy & Postpartum Treatment in Fenton, Michigan

Pregnancy is an amazing time! With it comes new challenges & changes for the body. As your body changes during pregnancy & returns to baseline during postpartum, prioritizing your health and fitness is key! Hormone changes during and after pregnancy begin a series of changes to the body that can result in a reduction in bone & muscle mass throughout life if exercise is not prioritized during pregnancy & the postpartum period (Watts et al., 2021, The Journal of Women’s Health). Although not every mom may feel like exercising, especially in the first trimester, research continues to emerge that not only does resistance & cardiovascular exercise help reverse this loss, but that it is extremely safe!

Pregnancy & Postpartum

Research from Prevett & colleagues (2023, The International Urogynecology Journal) followed a large cohort of CrossFitters, powerlifters, and Olympic weightlifters throughout pregnancy, finding no adverse outcomes! Furthermore, research is emerging that those moms who continue to train their core during pregnancy have no adverse outcomes and are much more likely to experience a faster, easier labor & delivery process (Gluppe, Engh, & Bo, 2023, Journal of Physiotherapy).
