Knee Pain Treatment in Fenton, Michigan

Knee pain can be bothersome. Among musculoskeletal pain, knee pain is among the top three reasons that individuals seek out care behind low back pain & shoulder pain. Painful knees are often attributed to osteoarthritis, meniscus tears, or tendinitis of structures around the knee; however under MRI we again find these “abnormalities” to be quite common. In fact, MRIs of 230 asymptomatic knees revealed abnormalities, such as meniscus tears, cartilage and tendon lesions, and osteoarthritis, in 97% of subjects! (Horga et al. 2020, Skeletal Radiology)

Knee Pain
Treatment of painful knee conditions continues to center around guided, progressive strengthening exercises targeting the regions around the knee and hip, as well as increased aerobic exercise. Even the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons agree in the updated Evidence Based Guidelines for Knee OA that “that patients with symptomatic OA of the knee participate in strengthening, aerobic exercises, and neuromuscular education and engage in physical activity consistent with national guidelines.” Not only will this work to reduce your knee pain in the short term, it will also help to promote your overall health and wellness in the long term, opening doors for you to be more active and not sidelined with “bad knees”.
