Knee pain can be bothersome. Among musculoskeletal pain, knee pain is among the top three reasons that individuals seek out care behind low back pain & shoulder pain. Painful knees are often attributed to osteoarthritis, meniscus tears, or tendinitis of structures around the knee; however under MRI we again find these “abnormalities” to be quite common. In fact, MRIs of 230 asymptomatic knees revealed abnormalities, such as meniscus tears, cartilage and tendon lesions, and osteoarthritis, in 97% of subjects! (Horga et al. 2020, Skeletal Radiology)
